Unmasking Six Deadpool Variants In Deadpool & Wolverine

Unmasking Six Deadpool Variants In Deadpool & Wolverine

August 8, 2024

Deadpool & Wolverine features a bevy of Deadpool variants, but who are the mercs underneath some of these masks? Let’s unmask some of these new ‘Pool variants.

Deadpool & Wolverine sees Ryan Reynolds starring as the eponymous “merc with a mouth” and Hugh Jackman returning to the role that he seemingly left behind after 2017’s Logan – Wolverine (aka Logan).

The film has become a juggernaut (sans helmet) success around the world and crossed the $850 million threshold in early August after an immense opening weekend that marked the biggest R-rated opening ever and the eight-biggest of all time.

Of course, Deadpool’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was always going to be stuffed with references as well as a bevy of notable cameos, but the sheer volume of Deadpool variants on display – especially in the climactic battle outside of the base where the dangerous time ripper is being held – is truly staggering.

There are a number of notable actors underneath the helmets of different Deadpool variants during Deadpool & Wolverine’s climactic battle scene

Ranging from Ladypool to Cowboy Deadpool to Kidpool to Headpool, which is simply a severed skeletal head with only half a jaw, the final battle scene is both tremendously entertaining and packed to the gills with easter eggs, references and in-jokes as well as a number of notable actors underneath the masks for some of those characters. Let’s unmask some of those variants of Mr. Pool.

Blake Lively as Ladypool

Perhaps the most notable of the new Deadpool variants, Ladypool, is played by Ryan Reynolds real-life wife Blake Lively. Lively’s performance is lithe and energetic – perfectly befitting the seeming leader of the Deadpool gang from the void.

Inez Reynolds as Kidpool

While it has been revealed that all four of Reynolds and Lively’s children had roles in D & W, it was only the couple’s second child, Inez, who had a speaking role in the film as Kidpool, the pint-sized Deadpool variant who bad-mouths Deadpool and Wolverine before the final fight.

Olin Reynolds as Babypool

The couple’s youngest child, their son Olin, plays the role of the adorable Babypool, who laughs after Deadpool and Wolverine defeat the entire army of Deadpools only to find out that they all have regenerative healing factors – and they all swiftly come back to life for another round.

Nathan Fillion as Headpool (Voice)

Nathan Fillion, notable film and television star whose career has seem him feature in a number of highly regarded and popular shows (Firefly and Castle spring to mind), appears in D & W as the floating, severed skeleton head version of Deadpool called, fittingly, Headpool. Fillion doesn’t get many lines, but he’s clearly enjoying himself with what he’s given, and he turns in a strong, entertaining performance – as usual for the beloved character actor.

Matthew McConaughey as Cowboy Deadpool

One word is all it will take for keen-eared viewers to suss out that it is, in fact, Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey playing Deadpool’s Wild West variant: Cowboy Deadpool.

That charming southern drawl is unmistakable, and it’s brought McConaughey beacoup success throughout his career – culminating in this amusing cameo that is sure to delight film buffs and Marvel fans the world over.

Peggy as Dogpool

Perhaps the biggest breakout star of D & W is Peggy the dog, a five-year-old pug and Chinese crested mix with a protruding tongue that simply refuses to stay inside the little pupper’s mouth.

Whether it’s Deadpool’s effusive praise and immediate devotion to Dogpool upon seeing her or the fact that Nicepool, which is Reynolds more or less playing a more Canadian version of himself, is the actual owner of the dog at the start of the film, Peggy absolutely steals the show throughout the film. I smell a spin-off!
